Julie Jones :: Clubs Founder & Youth Club Co ordinator
Julie Jones

Julie trained as a teacher, gaining a BEd Honours degree specialising in English and special needs. She taught for eleven years at a local primary school in Eastbourne, six years as a mainstream class teacher and five as special educational needs coordinator. In her role as SENCO Julie worked with children with a wide variety of needs, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, Downs Syndrome, ADHD and autism.

Julie’s youngest son Adam was diagnosed with profound autism and sensory integration disorder at the age of 22 months. She gave up work to care for him, receiving considerable support from speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, early years teachers, play therapists and a key worker to coordinate all the services.

When Adam started school, Julie took a part-time position with the sussex autistic society, running their family centre in Eastbourne and more recently the youth group until the society went into administration in July 2010.She has attended numerous training courses relating to autism over the years, including Makaton signing, PECS, Interactive play, sensory integration therapy, challenging behaviour, Team Teach and intensive interaction.

As a parent and professional, Julie realises how important recreational clubs for children and young people on the autistic spectrum and their families are and she is busy fundraising. She is delighted that the clubs are open again.
